Terms of cricket / Century

In the sport of cricket, a batsman reaches his century when he scores 100 or more runs in the innings. The term is also included in "century partnership" which occurs when two batsmen add 100 runs to the team total when they are batting together.

The first century in Test cricket was scored by Charles Bannerman. Playing in the first ever Test between Australia and England, (Melbourne Cricket Ground, March 15-19, 1877) Bannerman scored 165 retired hurt.

NZ in Australia

AUSTRALIA'S Mike Hussey averages 203 in his four Test matches at Adelaide Oval so it's no surprise he loves the place.

But the feeling is hardly mutual from the New Zealanders who collapsed on Saturday morning, losing 4-8 to be bowled out for 270 then watching Australia take control of the second Test.

Captain Ricky Ponting stroked a masterful 79 and Hussey is unbeaten on 69 with Australia to resume on Sunday on 3-241.

Now, this is a cricket blog and not political blog. But I want say that I hope from the bottom of my heart that this conflict will come to an end as soon as possible. And most of all, I wish streng and courage for all of you who have relatives and family in these dangerous situations.

Thats right, the score in game played in adelaide oval is 6/262. It is the first inning and Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori are batting. Aaron Redmond, Jamie How, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton and Daniel Flynn being bowled out.

At the same time in India, the british cricket team is figuring out what to do. new bowler for NZ-team for friday

Jeetan Patel replaces Kyle Mills


The offspinner Jeetan Patel will join New Zealand's squad for the second Test starting in Adelaide on Friday. Patel has been named to replace the fast bowler Kyle Mills, who missed out on a spot at the Gabba and will be released so he can play in the State Championship for Auckland this week.

"I was really disappointed not to play here, especially as the conditions up here and the humidity really suit my style of swing bowling," Mills said. "I will go home to get a bit of cricket because if I stayed here and did not play at Adelaide it would have meant three weeks without a game. While I haven't played here I have been working hard in the nets but getting a few games for Auckland will help me get and maintain some rhythm."

Andrew Symonds's Test career in the balance after alleged bar-room brawl

TROUBLE-plagued cricketer Andrew Symonds says he was the victim of an overzealous fan following reports he was involved in a pub fight at a Brisbane hotel at the weekend.

Management of Brisbane's popular Normanby Hotel went into bat for the Queensland all-rounder as Cricket Australia launched its own investigations into the incident.

"It's been reported I was involved in a pub fight on Sunday night. I would just like to take the opportunity to clarify this report," said Symonds in a statement released through Queensland Cricket.

"A member of the public acted unreasonably towards me while I was with friends at which time I took steps to remove myself from the situation.

Shah shines after monsoon but India mop up series

The first depression over Bangalore was caused by the north-east monsoon; the second by Owais Shah. But both proved short-lived as neither the rain nor the defiant hitting of Shah that followed it was enough to save England. India took an unassailable 4-0 lead in the seven-match series to take the Hero Honda Cup. England were just left with that familiar sinking feeling.

India will fly to Bhubaneswar today for the first of three dead rubbers talking of experimentation. England will head north fearing a whitewash. A rain-affected finale under the lights at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here offered them an escape clause but only Shah, with 72 from 48 balls, looked likely to accept it.

"India have played some fantastic cricket," said England's captain, Kevin Pietersen. "But we have to keep the series competitive. We are being paid to win games of cricket. We need to get our heads up."

backyard cricket

Hi guys
Once again we survived the working week.
As I mentioned in my earlier post this week, we have many options on how fast and on what intensity we get involved in the national level cricket. But one thing which I think we all can agree is that everyone who wants to play can play. So there should be multiple levels of cricket teams and games that we play here in Oulu. After all, it wont be long when we can teatch cricket in schools for the kids. Think about that also.
But for now... It is week end so let us enjoy our wel earned time with family and friends,, and maybe some cricket literature also. And to get your brains in the week end mode I am giving you an idea. In Australia they used to play cricket everyhere,, it was called backyard cricket. Have you ever thought of palying cricket here in Finland on ice? If not ,,, look at this you tube video from estonia:

prosess of the team

Hi everybody
As I promised to tell about the prosess of becoming a team, here it is.

I made first contact with the national cricket assosiation in Finland couple of months ago and we are in the prosess of finding options for the club. These options involve of how and what kind of club establish in Oulu.

As you propably know, the other national level clubs are in Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Vaasa. So we are to be the most northern club in Finland (at least at the moment). The distance from Oulu to Helsinki is about 8 hours ride in bus. So I am interested to hear and read your opinion of do we wish to partisipate in competition level and when?

What comes to the actual timetable: If we would like to start palying now, we would need a indoor place. To apply for these premesis is not difficult, but they are very popular. We might not be able to get a indoor place in the middle of the season, for this winter anymore, but for the year 2009-2010 it should be possible.

This means that the first games will be playen on summer 2009, outdoors.

About the equipment. For the team we need some basic equipment in the begginning. Also for the equipment arrangements I am still analysing our options. Also the idea of getting us a sponsor is important.

So, all in all. I need to dig deeper into the cricket acticity in Finland(there are certain customs in finnish cricket scene already and eventually we need to adopt some of those rules).

Eventually, when I have all the necessary facts, I could give you a presentation.

I hope this gives you some kind of idea where things are.

Before I write you about the prosess of becoming a real club, I would like to share something with. This one of the things that got me inspired in cricket. The waca (western Australia cricket assosiation) field in Pert Australia. It is a beutiful ground and there is also a museum integrated in the facilities. You can go for a guided tour on the field. Needless to say, the guides are former criceters or great fans of the game.
So enjoys the links and lets be careful otu there,,, once again it is a slippery weather.
